Class Nov 15: Start Identity Projects

We kicked off the identity project today. Here are the questions for class to have answered by Thursday at the beginning of class

  1. What is your dream job? What would you LOVE to be paid to do? Be specific. Saying “I want to do sales isn’t specific enough
  2. Who would you LOVE to work with/for? Disney? A small ad agency in NY working with non-profits? A fashion agency in LA? A magazine in the dog world?
  3. What experiences do you have? How do they serve you and potential employers?
  4. What skills and abilities do you bring to the work place?
  5. What strengths or abilities have others who know you well noticed in you?
  6. What do you see are your greatest skills and abilities? (e.g. can you teach, organize, plan, develop systems, motivate, sing, type, etc.)?

Class Oct 18: Client Kickoff

CLIENT: Last Thursday we interviewed our client, Cassie Richard owner of Remember Me Ranch, Inc.

PROJECT CHALLENGE: Similar to many new organizations and small organizations, Remember Me Ranch has a small staff, limited time and limited resources to create marketing pieces to promote themselves.

This is a double-edged sword. While most groups like RMR feel they cannot take the time to market their businesses because they are busy running the day-to-day operations, if they don’t market their businesses, they can fail because the correct audiences don’t know about them and support them (think of Plain Good Nutrition).

WHAT TO DO: Here are some recommended steps to follow.

  • First, we need to determine the primary goal for this project. Is it to raise awareness and build reputation/brand? Is it to get donations? etc.
  • Second, we need to determine target audiences. Who are they? Provide some background information on who they are, where they hang out, etc.
  • Third, we must determine what we want to provide for RMR. At minimum, we want to redesign the RMR brochure. We can change the text and the design (though we should incorporate the new logo created by Lisa Krosinski).
  • Fourth, determine any collateral material we might want to provide (e.g. flyers, sell sheets, bumper stickers, dog leashes, pet clickers, etc.).
  • Fifth, provide some ideas for distributing and sharing their new materials. Be specific! Think of online and offline resources as well as non-traditional avenues. Look at sites such as CreativeGuerrillaMarketing.com and DuctTapeMarketing.com for ideas

HOMEWORK: For Thursday, have your primary goal for the RMR project and primary and secondary audiences typed out. Also, type out ideas for items you might redesign or create (in addition to the RMR brochure)

Finally, the new due date for the project is tentatively November 10th (we need to make sure Cassie can come in that day).
