Sorry for the delay posting this … I forgot to put up the formal announcement. Your identity project v2 will be due the last day of class as will be your magazine assignment. I will be giving you an update on deadlines and expectations next week in class on Tuesday, November 29. Have a great Thanksgiving!
Work session today. I’ll be in class to make sure each class is on track, to share ideas and to help with technical issues. Any questions, please let me know.
CLIENT: Last Thursday we interviewed our client, Cassie Richard owner of Remember Me Ranch, Inc.
PROJECT CHALLENGE: Similar to many new organizations and small organizations, Remember Me Ranch has a small staff, limited time and limited resources to create marketing pieces to promote themselves.
This is a double-edged sword. While most groups like RMR feel they cannot take the time to market their businesses because they are busy running the day-to-day operations, if they don’t market their businesses, they can fail because the correct audiences don’t know about them and support them (think of Plain Good Nutrition).
WHAT TO DO: Here are some recommended steps to follow.
First, we need to determine the primary goal for this project. Is it to raise awareness and build reputation/brand? Is it to get donations? etc.
Second, we need to determine target audiences. Who are they? Provide some background information on who they are, where they hang out, etc.
Third, we must determine what we want to provide for RMR. At minimum, we want to redesign the RMR brochure. We can change the text and the design (though we should incorporate the new logo created by Lisa Krosinski).
Fourth, determine any collateral material we might want to provide (e.g. flyers, sell sheets, bumper stickers, dog leashes, pet clickers, etc.).
Fifth, provide some ideas for distributing and sharing their new materials. Be specific! Think of online and offline resources as well as non-traditional avenues. Look at sites such as CreativeGuerrillaMarketing.com and DuctTapeMarketing.com for ideas
HOMEWORK: For Thursday, have your primary goal for the RMR project and primary and secondary audiences typed out. Also, type out ideas for items you might redesign or create (in addition to the RMR brochure)
Finally, the new due date for the project is tentatively November 10th (we need to make sure Cassie can come in that day).
Today, you will be finishing up your second project redesign. At the start of class on Thursday, have you will turn in the following
your original design
your redesign
the short summary doc your created for Oct 4th with the following info
Where you found the redesign piece (this gives context and insight into the audience)
Who you think the primary audience is
What you think the primary message is
Thursday, we will begin working on our client project. The client and the individual who designed her business logo will be coming to class and presenting. They will be talking about the organization, their goals and their needs.
You will be working in teams for this project, so determine who you want to work with. Their is a maximum of 4 people per team.
Finished, polished final piece. If it’s supposed to use color, print out a color version
An brief executive summary. This is a very short (1/2 - 1 page maximum) which details
1. Who is your primary audience
2. Who is your secondary audience (if any)
3. What is the primary benefit you want to highlight to the audience
4. What is the secondary benefit you want to highlight
5. Your distribution model (what channels would you used to share this marketing piece - eg. kiosks, local magazines, local newspapers, etc.) BE SPECIFIC!!!!
